Just Friends?

How We Met
We met in May 1994 at the singles retreat through Harvest. Over the course of the months to follow, we got to know each other better by attending the singles fellowship at church. As time went on, we started to see more and more of each other. We'd go to the movies and out to dinner. We'd meet each other at church (Darcy changed church services just to be able to attend church with Steven). We had become good friends, but we were "just friends".

After spending so much time together, Darcy's desire was to become more than "just friends". So as a thoughtful gesture, she baked Steven some brownies and left them on his condo doorstep early one morning. It turned out that the brownies had the opposite effect on Steven than Darcy had hoped for...it scarred him away, and Darcy didn't hear from him for 3 weeks.

Eventually we hooked back up and started doing things together once again. And as time went by, the Lord showed Steven it was time for us to become more than "just friends". It was on our way home from the New Years Eve celebration at Knott's Berry Farm, that Steven suggested that we become more than just friends, and sealed the deal with a kiss. :)

Comming Soon!

How He Proposed
One Sunday after church, when there wasn't anything to do, Steven suggested that we go window shopping for a ring. Although he hadn't asked Darcy to marry him, his intentions were clearly out in the open.

Dying of curiousity, Darcy just had to know when the 'big day' was gonna happen. Reluctantly, Steven told Darcy that November 1st was to be the day.

Upon coming home from work, Darcy found 3 roses, a letter, and a little white box on her bed. Her first thought was that Steven had to go to work in Los Angeles, and he was asking to marry her in a letter! Inside the letter was a hint where she could find him in the form of a poem. And inside the white box was a ring, an engraved key ring that is, with the keys to his car and condo. This explained why his car was sitting out in front of her house. The poem revealed to Darcy that she could find him at the condo.

Darcy arrived at his condo, not to find Steven, but another 3 roses with another poem leading her to the Harvest bookstore. Off to the Harvest Store, not finding Steven once again, but being greeted with 3 more roses and a poem leading Darcy to Dairy Queen where "his best man would lend a helping hand". Darcy gets to Dairy Queen, and there is no Lloyd to be found. But when he does show up, he has 3 roses and a poem leading Darcy to "come as quickly as she is able to our favorite picnic table", the spot where we'd been doing our premarital counseling books. Leaving Dairy Queen wasn't that easy, as Darcy had to wait for the change from the money that Steven had given Lloyd to get himself an ice cream while he was there. Finally, Darcy was off to Fairmont Park to 'their' picnic table. Arriving there, Darcy finds a flashlight, as it is now dark, 3 roses (making the grand total 15), and a poem to come find him there among the roses. Darcy goes to the rose garden and out comes Steven. He gets down on one knee and opens a little white box, that lit up and shinned upon the diamond ring, and asks Darcy to marry him.

Just Married!

The BIG Day
After a four and a half month engagement, we got married on Saturday, March 23, 1996 at Harvest Christian Fellowship. We were married by Pastor Paul Eaton, the pastor who lead the singles ministry. We had a simple, but nice, reception at California Baptist University.

We went to Seacrest in Pismo Beach for the first few days of our honeymoon. Seacrest had been the family vaction spot for Darcy's family for several years, and was a special place she wanted to share with Steven.

The remainder of our honeymoon we spent in Monterey, at the Jabberwock Inn, a bed & breakfast based on Louis Carroll's book, "Through the Looking Glass".
